Knowledge Park to establish 135,000-square-foot Cyber Park dedicated to accelerating Fredericton’s fast-growing cybersecurity sector

Fredericton, N.B. - Knowledge Park, Atlantic Canada’s largest technology and research park, is expanding to accommodate Fredericton’s flourishing cybersecurity sector by constructing a new, 135,000-square-foot building, Cyber Park,  with $30 million repayable investment from Opportunities NB.

“The Cyber Park will be the critical infrastructure that brings together all of the essential components to catapult Fredericton into a leadership position in the cybersecurity industry,” said CEO of Knowledge Park Larry Shaw. “A dedicated cybersecurity centre will support regional, provincial and national economic development priorities to attract new talent and businesses to our region.”

Cyber Park will be located on the north side of Knowledge Park Drive, approximately 500 meters from the existing Knowledge Park buildings. This location provides the best long-term plan for future cybersecurity growth. The new building will establish the infrastructure required to build a national center of excellence and will include cybersecurity innovation and commercialization labs.

Knowledge Park presents the most conducive organization and location to house Cyber Park due to the existing clustering environment of technology, digital infrastructure, close proximity to entrepreneurial support, key stakeholders, access to the research and development network within the Innovation District.

“Knowledge Park is an integral part of Fredericton’s innovation ecosystem, supporting research and development organizations and helping companies streamline product development here in our province,” said Peter Powell, Chair of Knowledge Park Board of Directors. “As we move forward, Cyber Park will provide significant support for ongoing and future investment attraction opportunities. Thanks to the synergistic partnership between Cyber NB and Opportunities NB, this park will be the hub that brings together the sharpest minds in cybersecurity and the resources that will help them succeed.”

In support of this $37-million project, Knowledge Park has been awarded a $30-million repayable loan from Opportunities NB.

The new centre will be comprised of two main towers, standing a total of four stories tall. The ground floor will contain the central core and common support areas, totaling approximately 3410 square meters. The other three levels will be approximately 3150 square meters. Each will contain leasable space. The building will also provide modern and efficient space to meet current

standards for occupational health and safety, office technology and communications, and energy efficiency. The building will also feature the appropriate infrastructure for high technology users.
